-- The Marshall Brodien April 10, 2010 Tribute --
Nothin' Up My Sleeve 8 was held Saturday April 10th at 6:00pm. 700 + people attended this years benefit and rave revues have been given by many. Lance Burton from Vegas opened the show on the big screen with a special greeting and then Producers - Nino Cruz and Glenn Chelius with the help of two lovely assistants magically appeared from a large house of cards followed by a blast of confetti over the audience. Glenn and Nino both thanked the sponsors including Georgio's Pizzeria, Pauly Toyota, Digital Imaging Resources, Mark Presley, Tom Holbrook, WGN Morning News and the Northwest Herald. A warm welcome was then given to Ken Mate the host of this years benefit. Ken's style of comedy magic and quick wit kept the audience laughing as he introduced each act. Following Ken was Master ventriloquist Dale Brown. Dale's presentation with Louie and then Chip was fast paced and generated non-stop hilarity and fun. Next up was the magic of Marshall Brodien Jr. (a chip off the old block). This was a real treat witnessing the 2nd generation of the Brodiens. He even involved a child named Johnny that was celebrating his 8th birthday that night with family and friends. Ken Mate then picked Marshall Brodien Sr. and his lovely wife Mary out of the audience to come up on stage and perform his famous "Blade Box" just like his day's at Riverview Park as a side show carnival barker. A beautiful image of Riverview Park was projected behind him as he performed this amazing illusion with the help of Steve Chezaday. After a thunderous applause Marshall was presented with a special gift from Jim Bestman, President of the III Sheeters Entertainers Club. Jim presented a plaque with a large pole sticking out from it that took Marshall by surprise until Dale Brown walked out with a Wizzo puppet that after a few do de do de do's was placed like a glove on the pole for display. Ken then called Dean Richards to come up on stage and say a few words about Marshall. Just when you thought this show could not get any better - Andy Head was introduced and dazzled everyone with his extraordinary juggling ability. What better way to end Nothin' Up My Sleeve 8 then with some grand illusions and that is exactly what John Measner provided. John thrilled everyone with the help of Robin Balster, his assistant and doves and a french poodle. He also performed the Metamorphisis that made Houdini famous. The cast then met audience members in the lobby for autographs and conversation until about 8:30. Guest's with a ticket for the III Sheeter's Marshall Brodien reception were then invited back into the theatre and up on stage for an intimate cocktail style party for Marshall. Over 150 people attended this party giving them a chance to shake Marshall's hand and see the Wizzo puppet up close. Projected on the wall during the reception was running footage of Marshall's career including bits as Wizzo on the Bozo Show. As another special treat, the International Brotherhood of Magicians presented Marshall with a plaque of honor and Tom Holbrook presented him with a Wizzo figurine that he custom made and painted.
